Since Ben Taub and LBJ hospitals opened more than 30 years ago, Harris County has seen incredible growth. This November, Harris Health will ask voters to consider a major bond proposal—for the first time ever—to respond to our region’s growing population and healthcare needs.
Construction of a new hospital on the LBJ campus will double inpatient capacity and pave the way for the first Level I Trauma center outside of the Texas Medical Center—greatly enhancing the county’s ability to provide lifesaving treatment for heart attack, stroke and more. Major renovations to the existing LBJ facility will enable new service offerings, such as mental healthcare.
Ben Taub Hospital is a key player within the larger healthcare ecosystem of Harris County. The proposal calls for a major expansion of patient capacity as well as trauma care enhancement which will significantly extend the hospital’s reach and lifespan.
As academic partners to UTHealth and Baylor College of Medicine, Harris Health plays a vital role in training the healthcare workers of tomorrow. The proposed expansion allows for a variety of new learning and education opportunities in the heart of the healthcare capital of the world.
Primary care and disease prevention are critical to the health of our communities. The bond provides funding for clinic improvements and additional health centers to reach even more residents in underserved areas of Harris County.
